In a day and age where making a sequel is as commonplace as taking your shirts to the drycleaners, Disney Studios is striving to entice someone with a sequel to its 2010 Tim Burton-directed film Alice in Wonderland, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office. As of yet, there is no definite director. While Disney is hoping to bring Burton back for the project, they also have their eye on James Bobin who directed their 2011 film The Muppets and who is also currently working on its sequel The Muppets….Again!

It is also unknown whether stars Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp are returning, however the film will be written by Linda Woolverton who wrote Alice. The sequel will most likely be titled Through the Looking Glass and based off of Lewis Carroll’s book, also titled “Through the Looking Glass.”

As one who very much enjoyed the first Alice, I’m excited by the prospect of a sequel. However, one must ask whether or not a sequel such as this is necessary. I mean, it’s not as if Burton left Alice in Wonderland open for a possible continuation. The premise at the end very firmly stated that Alice had found her place in life and was pursuing her desires in the real world, not her dream land. To return to Underland would be like returning to Narnia. But then why not? What’s wrong with a return to Narnia? At least it will be based off of an original story.
