”The Hobbit” Part 3 Has Been Named

Posted: September 1, 2012 in Movie News

NEW ZEALAND, September 1—-Or rather, The Hobbit part 2 has been renamed. The second part of Peter Jackson’s tale was originally called “There and Back Again,” a suitable title that expressed the film’s plot in basic terms. But now that the once-last stage of a particular hobbit’s journey will actually become the middle stage, it became apparently necessary to re-title it. Thus, part 3 of this exciting journey is now The Hobbit: There and Back Again, and part 2 has been dubbed The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

This title is actually lifted straight from Tolkien’s map in the front cover of The Hobbit. For those who have not read the book, Smaug is actually the main antagonist of the story, and the reason why a hobbit and 13 dwarves must take an unexpected journey in the first place. (I want to know who Smaug is)

The title of the second film can be seen near the bottom.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again will be in theaters July 18, 2014.
